Carlos hails from the great city of Santa Maria, California. Born to a single mother from Mexico, Carlos
developed an appreciation and love of history from a young age from his older sister who would come
home and give him mini Chicano studies lectures that she had learned that day from school. This love of
history developed into an overall love of learning that led to his passion – teaching.
A graduate of San Francisco State University’s history program, Carlos understands history as a living
breathing entity that continues to change and form as new information becomes available. With an
emphasis of amplifying the voices of the vanquished, Carlos sees history as a way to understand the
present world and its intricacies and never backs down from complexity.
In his spare time you can find Carlos watching films, reading fiction, cooking tri-tip, playing guitar and
singing to his two budgies named Toño and Panchito.
