Our commitment
Samueli Academy is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to all members of our community, including students, families, staff, and visitors with disabilities.
Conformance standard
Our website is designed and maintained to conform with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
What we’ve done
Recent accessibility improvements to samueliacademy.org include:
- Keyboard navigation. The entire main navigation menu, including dropdown sub-menus, can be operated using only a keyboard.
- Skip to content. A “Skip to main content” link appears at the top of every page for keyboard and screen reader users, allowing them to bypass the navigation.
- Visible focus indicators. All interactive elements — links, buttons, form fields, and menu items — display a clear, high-contrast focus outline when navigated to with a keyboard.
- Color contrast. Text and interactive elements have been reviewed and adjusted to meet the 4.5:1 contrast ratio required at Level AA.
- Alternative text. Images across the site have been reviewed and descriptive alternative text has been added where appropriate.
- Accessible forms. Our contact and information request forms include properly associated labels so that screen reader users can identify each field.
- Responsive design. The site adapts to mobile devices, tablets, and desktops, and supports browser zoom up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
Known limitations
We want to be transparent about areas where we know work remains:
- Archived PDF documents. Some PDF documents posted before April 2026 — including historical board meeting agendas and minutes — may not be fully tagged for screen reader users. If you need an accessible version of any document, please contact us using the information below and we will provide one.
- Third-party content. Certain features on our site, including our online donation platform, translation widget, and embedded social media feeds, are provided by third-party vendors. While we select vendors that prioritize accessibility, we cannot guarantee full conformance for content we do not control.
